It's been 7 years in the making, but the album is finally ready. The memories of learning to play the bass in high school and record with a Tascam 4-track in the garage are still vivid. Back then listening to the Cocteau Twins and The Smiths and imagining how they put it all together was daunting to even contemplate. That was before setting up a home studio was even possible. But today is a different world, and it is possible to create music in ways that seemed impossible when I was growing up.
The Light Archive is a reference to a feature of the eschatological cult I grew up in. We believed that the end of the world was imminent, and our sole purpose was to save as many souls as possible before the end came. We believed in specific dates when this would happen based on a house of cards of prophecy and interpretation. Every time a prophecy failed to come true, the cult leadership would say that “new light” was coming soon and it always got brighter as the end drew near. So, I always wondered what happened to the “old light” that we believed was so correct right up until it fell apart? Hence, the inspiration for the name. Thinking from a scientific perspective about the elements that we're all made of and being born in stars and supernovas, I think we're all archives of the light of those distant events.
I hope you enjoy the product of the various influences that make up this album.
